The evil empire has built a secret droid factory somewhere on the planet Tatooine. They are building an army of assassin droids and unless they are stopped, these dangerous machines will terrorise the galaxy.Your job is to become a master droid builder by designing and building druids that help you complete important missions. Ultimately you must find the secret location of the assassin factory and reprogram the assassin droids to outsmart the evil empire. But can they cut it?!
Everything you need to construct the perfect droid is in the workshop. You can choose from 87 unique parts and build from a possible 25 million variations. You can even paint them to your own specification. Droids are tested in the training facility where you learn how to overcome obstacles that lie ahead in the perilous 3D environments.
Aimed at anyone from 10 years up, the BAFTA award-winning Star Wars Droidworks is an engrossing and highly entertaining game. It might sound complex but there are four tutorials which clearly show you how to build and operate droids and deploy them on missions. There are easy-to-follow on-screen instructions telling you the speed, how much power you have left and where to exit to the workshops.
The assassin droids are large hunks of moving scrap metal. They are dull-witted and fairly easy to elude. But don't let them get too close--and may the force be with you! --Justin Hunt

Young Jedis can explore an entire galaxy with this creative activity pack. Decidedly not another Star Wars arcade game, this software incorporates music, vocabulary, critical-thinking skills, geometry and map reading in six different activities with four different difficulty levels. When all the levels are completed, you can print out an official Yoda-endorsed certificate--Luke Skywalker never got this kind of reinforcement! You can jam with the Cantina Band or create your own songs, all the while drumming with Jar Jar to outwit the battle droids. This program contains tricky tangrams; when they're complete, each picture turns into a real scene from Episode I. It's also possible to print your own illustrated stories in the process of programming C3PO's memory. With extraordinary graphics, great sound, and so many different puzzles and printables, all of these content-rich games are sure to delight and challenge the Padawan learners in your galaxy. --Jill Lightner

The people of Naboo are having a grand celebration, and they want you to join them; follow favourite Star Wars characters Anakin Skywalker, Queen Amidala and Jar-Jar Binks through a host of educational activities in the city of Theed and the underwater kingdom of Otoh Gunga. On land, players may choose between three activities: in Naboo Puppet Theatre, children select a character to star in a puppet drama and then define a story for the puppet to act out; Gungan Sling Painting challenges players to hurl paint at druids, matching the colour of the paint to the surrounding druids; and in Music Droids, participants improvise tunes using a number of different instruments and maps. The undersea component of the game is also divided into three parts: in Otoh Gunga, players can dunk Boss Nass by sorting creatures into colour groups, find hidden seashells with Obi-Wan Kenobi and design a Gungan Deesco Dance for Jar-Jar Binks.
While all six activities seem to effortlessly combine educational content and pure fun, Music Droids is especially outstanding. The music maps are designed so carefully that players can skate a mouse over the map surface and come up with a credible-sounding tune; anyone who has tried to create musical combinations with an unfamiliar instrument will know that this is no easy task. Children will delight at the creativity incorporated into this game and the ease of playing it.
In spite of a few slow and repetitive sequences, the Star Wars Early Learning Activity Centre offers a high replay factor. It builds vocabulary and the understanding of music concepts, logic and a host of other useful skills without making it seem like a chore. Game instructions are delivered slowly and clearly, with plenty of visual aids; character voices, sound and graphics are vivid and often amusing. Young fans of the Star Wars films are sure to enjoy and learn from this well-crafted programme. (Ages 4 to 6) --Alyx Dellamonica

Queen Amidala's ship has been badly damaged and R2-D2 is busy on the outside trying to fix the shield operator.Your job is to repeat the pattern of lights and sounds as you see and hear them as a way to generate power for the shields.
This is one of the many games you can play in Jar Jar's Journey. Each one is clearly narrated and easy to follow. There are plenty of others including Jar Jar's colouring centre where you can quickly turn your cursor into a paint brush.
But if you don't fancy playing any Star Wars-themed games, you can sit back and listen to a story. In his inimitable way Jar Jar tells you how he was saved by a brave Jedi when the battle droids tried to take over his planet. Click on underlined words and hear amusing songs or find hidden characters who fly through the air.
As you would expect from George Lucas, this is a high-quality software title. The strong characters, special effects and richly illustrated designs make this a highly enjoyable game for young Star Wars fans from four years upwards.
It's entertaining for adults as well. At the start, Jar Jar sticks out his long tongue and eats an exclamation mark off the computer screen. "It tastes like chicken," he declares with a grin. The lovable creature from the planet Naboo is likely to become the undisputed star of children's CD-ROMs.--Justin Hunt
