3-D graphics can really spice up a document or important presentation, the problem is in finding just the one you need. Thankfully the 3D & Animate Graphic Effects Studio with 3DPlus 3 from those thoughtful folks at Serif is a versatile, easy-to-use, all-in-one solution to all your needs.Harnessing the power of this package is made easy through the user interface, which manages to be both intuitive and comprehensive, giving access to more than 700 ready-made models, as well as allowing for the creation of custom models for more specialised situations. Though not a fully fledged rendering package like Truespace 5 or 3D Studio Max, 3D & Animate does a sterling job of producing high-quality work through the kind of features you'd expect to find in products twice the price.
Using the included 3DPlus software, three dimensional text is a breeze to produce and can be textured with ease and rendered scenes can have individual lights and lighting effects applied. Short animated movies can be produced for output to AVI and later inclusion on CD presentations.
The second disk in this two CD set contains a wealth of ready-made models which can used as-is or modified to taste using the tools provided within the package proper.
Those looking for raytracing tools should look elsewhere to fulfil their needs, but for those looking for something to give presentations impact, design graphics for their homepage, or just to liven up personalised birthday cards or other greetings this represents superb value for money. --Chris Russell

Applications that allow you to create 3D models can be expensive, difficult to learn and time consuming. Serif 3DPlus 2 is just the opposite--an inexpensive, easy to pick up method of producing 3D text and graphics in no time at all. It's also a lot of fun.Serif 3DPlus 2 keeps things simple by providing template-based wizards to get you started and following up with lots of preset controls and 3D content. There are wizards for still and animated graphics, those for business use are a bit limited, but a quick examination of the templates and twenty minutes experimentation is all you need to be able to create your own from scratch. The gallery of ready-made objects is a big timesaver, with everything from basic shapes to clothes, household appliances, sports equipment and planetary bodies. If you can't find what you want and don't fancy drawing it, 3D Quickshapes provide a convenient shortcut for stars, arrows, speech bubbles and similar basic shapes.
It doesn't take long to get the hang of keying in text, extruding it to create a 3D object, adding texture and lighting, dropping in a background image, adding other 3D objects from the library and changing the camera position to get a better view from above, below or behind. There's something magical about being able to build a solid 3D object, move it around and view it from every conceivable angle.
